Audi A1 Sportback concept-Audi is presenting another version of the innovative hybrid technology in the drive unit for the A1 Sportback concept. Under the hood is a 1.4-liter TFSI® engine developing 150 hp, whose power is directed to the front wheels by means of the S tronic® dual-clutch transmission. A 27 hp electric motor integrated in the drivetrain delivers an additional 111 lb-ft of torque when the vehicle is accelerating.

Turbocharged FSI® Technology
Peak torque of the Audi A1 Sportback is 177 lb-ft and is on tap over a broad rev band from 1,600 to 4,000 rpm. Multi-hole injectors result in very homogeneous mixture formation and extremely efficient combustion. This is also an effective means of helping reduce emissions.

The integrated turbocharger promises optimized responsiveness and even more harmonious torque buildup. Eighty percent of peak torque can be summoned up from as low down as 1,250 rpm; in other words, barely above idling speed. And despite its power, the 1.4 TFSI® sets a new benchmark in its class for its acoustic output as well.

Up to 30 Percent Lower Consumption of Fuel
Between the engine and transmission sits the 27 hp electric unit, which cuts in automatically depending on the selected operating mode—or propels the vehicle alone. The battery unit—a package of compact lithium-ion batteries—is installed at the rear of the vehicle, which makes for a good weight balance.

When powered solely by the combustion engine or the electric motor, or when both are used in the boost mode, the A1 Sportback concept operates as a front-wheel-drive vehicle. The high torque of 288 lb-ft in total — 177 lb-ft from the 1.4 TFSI® plus an extra 111 lb-ft from the electric motor—is transformed into the required level of tractive power when accelerating.

The Audi A1 Sportback concept can, in principle, run self-sufficiently using variable output from both the combustion engine and the electric motor. Thanks to the intelligent management of both units, energy regeneration as well as the automatic start/stop function, fuel consumption is almost 30 percent lower compared to a vehicle running on the gasoline engine alone. Although the components of the electric motor add around 88 pounds to the overall weight, the powerplant burns 1 gallon of premium fuel per 60.31 U.S. MPG in mixed mode, while CO2 emissions average just 148 g/mile.

“Refueling” From Power Sockets
Pure electrical operation over shorter distances, however, is a particularly attractive alternative offered by this vehicle that benefits the environment and as well as the wallet—especially considering that the performance achieved in this mode and the range of more than 31 miles are perfectly satisfactory. “Refueling” the Audi A1 Sportback concept from power sockets alone, therefore, produces an unequivocal result: Even allowing for the relatively high costs of domestic electricity in Germany, it is still possible to achieve a savings of more than 80 percent compared with the price of premium fuel. Thanks to “zero emissions,” the benefit to the environment is even greater, particularly in congested urban areas.

The Chassis
The fundamental ingredient for outstanding driving safety and handling dynamics is supplied by the sophisticated chassis design, comprising McPherson front suspension and four-link independent rear suspension. Large 18-inch wheels with size 225/35 R18 tires boost both driving pleasure and safety. Thanks to the newly developed active, ESP®-controlled front differential lock, propulsive torque is distributed according to the driving situation, thereby achieving enhanced steering precision and superior directional stability as well as improved traction and dynamic handling when cornering.

The braking system, with its large-diameter discs measuring 12.28 inches at the front wheels, is more than a match for the drive power. Bred on the racetrack, the system promises outstanding, fade-free stopping power.

Audi Drive Select
The Audi A1 Sportback concept features Audi drive select, which is also available as an option in the current generation of the Audi A4 best seller. This enables the driver to preselect one of two specially adapted configurations for the drivetrain, shift characteristics and magnetic ride shock absorbers.

Efficiency Mode: The default setting is the “efficiency” mode. In this mode, the engine and transmission respond gently to use of the accelerator and shift paddles. In the “efficiency” mode, the Audi A1 Sportback concept can be used for distances of up to 62 miles in purely electric mode—and it is quite speedy, too: Thanks to the powerful battery it is possible to reach speeds of more than 62 MPH. The combustion engine only cuts in once battery capacity has dropped below 20 percent of maximum.

In this mode, the electric motor is not deployed as a source of additional torque; instead, it is run selectively as the sole power source to bring about a tangible reduction in consumption. In the “efficiency” mode, for example, with a fully charged battery and a distance of less than 31 miles, the vehicle is operated purely by electrical power.

Sport Mode: The sport mode is designed to produce the dynamic yet comfortable driving sensation that is typical of Audi. In this mode, the vehicle’s electronics also harness the torque available from the electric motor to achieve extra-sporty acceleration along with excellent lateral dynamics.

Audi Magnetic Ride
The shock absorbers deploy a highly innovative technology in the form of Audi magnetic ride, which has already made its mark in the Audi R8 high-performance sportscar and in the TT. Here, the conventional shock absorber fluid is replaced by a magneto-rheological fluid whose qualities can be controlled by means of an electromagnetic field. This effect enables the damping characteristic to be influenced electronically at will by applying a voltage to the electromagnets.
Audi magnetic ride capitalizes on this quality to make the appropriate damping forces available in any driving situation, thereby optimizing both ride comfort and performance dynamics. A computer linked up to a system of sensors interprets the current driving situation with split-second speed. Here, the driver can choose between two driving programs, depending on whether he or she wants to drive with a sportier style—with the magneto-rheological fluid requiring a low yield stress – or with a greater emphasis on ride comfort.

Toyota GT 86-The new Toyota GT 86 will be making its world debut in just a few days at the 2011 Tokyo Auto Show. It will go on sale in the Summer 2012. An official announcement for the North American market will most likely be made in Detroit.

Sports car with a 2 +2 seater is carried from the Subaru Boxer engine and D-4S technology. Kitchen runway 2000cc 4-cylinder engine was spewing power 200 hp at 7000 rpm and torque of 205 Nm at 6600 rpm.For the European market strength 197 hp. The whole energy is distributed to all of the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission.

Interior

The GT-86’s interior is as sporty as its outside with a flat-bottomed steering wheel with its very own red stitching. It measures only 365 mm, the smallest yet fitted to a Toyota and has been finished in buckskin finish. In addition to that, the GT-86 also has aluminum pedals, a navigation system, gauges that light with red neon, digital readouts, and a gray instrument panel that seamlessly molds into the darker dash. The car’s cockpit is further reinforced by carbon effect trim, a sporting, all-black roof lining, red upholstery stitching, and aviation-style rocker switchgear. It comes with a large tachometer that offers at-a-glance visibility and readability during sports driving. The front seat has also been designed to offer great comfort, as well as to prevent elbows from interfering with gearshift operation.

Engine
D-4S technology donated from Toyota to Subaru Boxer engine. The machine has a pair of injectors (injectors) separately for direct injection and port injection. High engine compression 12,5:1. Both make power and torque of the engine becomes higher and lower fuel consumption. Finally, throw gas emissions were cut.

The Toyota GT-86 is powered by a 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated flat-four engine, the result of a joint development between Subaru and Toyota, combined with D-4S technology (direct injection combined with port injection). With separate twin injectors for both direct and port injection, and a high compression ratio of 12.5:1, D-4S increases power and torque over a wide range of engine speeds without sacrificing fuel efficiency and environmental performance.

In the Toyota model, this engine will only deliver 200 HP at 7000 rpm and maximum torque of 151 lb-ft at 6600 rpm, but Subaru has promised a total of 300 HP for their version. That being said, the base BRZ will come with the same 200 HP that the new GT-86 is sporting, bringing these two models closer than originally anticipated. Subaru’s promised 300 HP will be present in the STI version, leading us to believe that a G-Sports variant for the GT-86 will bring forth the same amount of power.

This engine will be mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The manual will offer quick and precise shifts with a short-throw, while the automatic transmission will feature sporty shifts controlled by steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifts. Power will be distributed effectively to the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential.

His body is small (compact). With a length of 4240 mm, height 1285 mm and a width of 2.570 mm. 86 GT Wheelbase 2570 mm was recorded.Weight distribution of 53:47 (front: rear) Toyota claimed nearly perfect. While the center of gravity is low (475 mm).Although a small body, after all, the appearance of the GT 86 remains haunted. Under-shaped grille 'Scorpion' to impress her muscular. Moreover, a car equipped with a rear spoiler, alloy wheels 17 ", twin exhaust, pistons logo '86 '.
GT 86 reminds us of some of Toyota's sports car in the past. In 1962, Toyota developed the Sports 800 2-cylinder Boxer engine. Three years later came the beautiful 2000 GT-engined 2.0-liter 6-cylinder in line.
Next came Celica rear-wheel-drive. Then Supra RWD with 6-cylinder engine line. In 1984 Toyota MR2 release - known as a sports car that has the best handling.

86 GT itself was inspired by the Corolla GT AE86 or Levin, produced between 1983-1987. Historically, many follow Levin rally and racing championships. Had several times won the British Touring Car Championship.

Aston Martin Bulldog GT HBH Mid-Engined 2013-Aston Martins often prove capable of tangling with the likes of Ferraris and Lamborghinis. But one thing that sets them apart is that, while their Italian counterparts often place their engines amidship, Astons are always front-engined.

Well, the Lola LMP1 Le Mans racer Pierre Le, everything comes from the factory in Gaydon – as much as earlier in Milton Keynes – the engine at the front, and exotic, like a One-77 supercar, Zagato and V12 Vanquish. Here is where you HBH.
Well, discounting their Lola-built LMP1 Le Mans racer, everything that rolls out of the factory in Gaydon -- much as they did before at Newport Pagnell -- has its engine up front, even with supercars as exotic as the One-77, V12 Zagato and Vanquish. That's where HBH comes in.

The Danish firm, as we initially reported back in May and followed up on in July, takes its initials from the last names of its brain trust: Jesper Hermann, Christian Brandt and Torben Hartvig, who between them have a wealth of niche supercar experience to impart. For their latest project, the trio teamed up to produce the vehicle you see here: the Aston Martin Bulldog GT.

Aside from the engine being place behind the cabin, the Bulldog GT features unique aluminum bodywork that looks suitably Aston-like and accommodates placing the engine in the middle. And in case the 6.0-liter V12 lifted from the Vantage weren't powerful enough, HBH has bolted on two superchargers to boost output up to 666 horsepower. That's said to be enough for a 3.9-second run to 62 mph and a 186-mph top end, but we wouldn't be surprised to find those numbers conservative.

Perhaps the most intriguing bit is that HBH is not just selling the car, but half of its production rights along with it. That means the buyer can choose whether to keep it as a one-off or put it into limited production and reap the rewards. Sounds like an interesting business model to us. Take a closer look at the finished product in our gallery of images and draw your own conclusions

Phantom has a rare touch of classical and modern really made by Rolls-Royce.

2:01 The wheel-to-height ratio is fundamental to this as a coach is the door. Curves gently downward sweeping roofline and upward from the lower body lines suggest movement even when the car is stationary.

Just as the presence of the Phantom who quietly authoritative, direct injection V12 engine power is very impressive. At 70mph more than 90% of available power in reserve, facilitate the acceleration.

Combined with the electronically controlled six-speed transmission, pressing the accelerator gives the driver a feeling of smooth, endless acceleration from standing or at speed.

Even more impressive from the outside and more spacious inside, the Phantom Extended Wheelbase offers a further 250mm of legroom for rear passengers. With a choice of the best in contemporary communications technology, it's an indulgent space - perfect to work in, to sit and think or just watch the world pass smoothly by. Thanks to the adaptability of the spaceframe, there is no compromise in the performance or aesthetics of the car. The rear seats are set back in the car, ensuring passengers' privacy without restricting their view of the world as it passes.

Phantom's unique, advanced aluminium spaceframe is hand-welded from over 500 separate parts, with over 100 metres of weld. Incredibly light but strong, it is both stiff and dynamic. When combined with the state-of-the art suspension technologies, it creates the air-cushioned 'magic carpet ride' that is unique to Rolls-Royce. The double-skinned flat floor of the spaceframe conceals much of the technology, making it conspicuous by its apparent absence. This adds to the calm, quiet ambience inside by isolating passengers from road noise and the flat floor leaves plenty of space to stretch out.

"The Range Rover has always been and remains the ultimate luxury SUV, and if performance is off-road comfort and performance. Levels of new equipment, revised style and generous feature package that makes the man to beat in 2012, "said John Edwards, director of global brand Land Rover.

Bishop can be the first SUV in the history of truly sensual. This is a charming heel shoes in the closet full of earth's land Rover. Some functions to solve the family of applications on tight body, angle - one that you will not be surprised to hear, have a fan in the form of a tight, corner Victoria Beckham hominids. But they are mainly to show some remnants of past Range Rover geocaching. This soft adventure is about tomorrow and live to see with every hair in place, not covered in mud.

Remove some of the concepts of race Rover that has been applied to the implementation of this Evoke, which involves the manipulation and rural couples Trucky V-8. There Landis even less here. Derived from the LR2, the holders of Evoke launched a completely new and exciting, with its 240 horsepower, turbocharged four-cylinder. It's hard on the road, with lots of noise transmission and turbo lag significantly, but not heavy propulsion system leaves Smallville and weaker, and sets out Evoke Rover LR2 pleasure only eight bottles of torque flow. Caution is urged because of thirst, as whizzy as the Acura RDX, with 19/28 mpg fuel economy similar.

All weather traction is a force, provided dial-a-mode Terrain Response four-wheel, and direction to evoke imitation is the most compact unit of Volvo and Ford. The following key light through a dynamic model with magnetic suspension controlled and calm, smooth. And there are more than eight inches above the ground, you should get high centered on a few things last season stacked on the pavement at Saks.

If you wish to give up a lot, apart from the extra money, to fit the lifestyle Evoque, try one for size first. There is less space than LR2, but Evoque wider, so that the total interior volume is unbearable. In front, very comfortable for adults, just below the back, but not fun provided you have purchased in the state cut. What is not easy to swallow an adult intestine is large, if you have to crawl in the back door of the three bishops. Super sports car has been extensively redesigned with new front and rear, an innovative engine bonnet and a choice of two aerodynamic set-up with either a rear spoiler, large or small. The interior in Alcantara and carbon fiber provides a pure and minimalist approach.

In order to achieve a substantial reduction in body weight of 220 pounds (100 kg), the Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce is extensively revised and rebuilt in almost every aspect - from chassis to engine and transmission, through the outback. Increased engine power 640-670 hp is the result of the re-optimized and intake systems. Significantly modified aerodynamics with the support of a substantial increase in a significant increase in vehicle stability at high speeds. With a small adjustment in the rear spoiler, top speed of 212 mph, while "Aeropack wing" of providing additional support and a top speed of 209 mph.

"The new Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce is the systematic resume of our brand philosophy. In all of the characters, Murciélago is without comparison in the market for sports cars.

However, this character can be further refined - the new Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce is more extreme, even more pure high end. It is clear from the first glimpse of a completely redesigned its front end - pulled ahead and finished in matt black paint, carbon fiber front spoiler is connected to the front via two vertical elements. Air intakes are larger and more powerful front brake is emphasized. The new front fenders feature additional air intakes, brake ventilation. Without the aid for the oil cooler located in the driver's side area is painted matt black threshold to meet the threshold.

Changes in the engine compartment even more striking Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce. Twelve-cylinder engine is presented in the technical work under a transparent engine hood that offers a completely new architecture. Hexagonal polymer plates made from transparent polycarbonate set at three levels within a carbon fiber chassis. Open in the back layer, plays a key role in the thermodynamics of high performance engines.

The back of the SuperVeloce is dominated by the exhaust impressive, truly noble and wide flat bottom and through the two-level diffuser system finished entirely in carbon fiber. Rear light clusters display their signals in that distinctive Y-shape has been a fixed element of Lamborghini design since the LP, Murciélago Reventón and Gallardo LP 560-4 640. The panel between the lights is made from carbon fiber, while the contribution from the grid significantly below extends the entire width of the rear. Made from thick-walled aluminum, the hexagonal pattern is laser cut and a Teflon coating provides the necessary heat protection.

Aerodynamics of the Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce completely restored. Along with the front spoiler and rear diffuser augmented with twin beds, a new rear spoiler still plays an important role. Customers can choose between two versions, with a small rear spoiler increases downforce at high speeds. Alternatively, the Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce can be equipped with "Aeropack Wing" - a large, dense, carbon-fiber wing mounted on two carbon-fiber brackets. The new aerodynamic design provides a significant contribution to the definition of directional stability at top speeds. High-speed downforce is the Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce with Aeropack greatly increased.

Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series Coupe provides an attractive luxury sports cars for sports car enthusiasts who have a big horsepower. C63 AMG Black Series is the development of type C63 coupe that appeared several months ago. C63 AMG has the characteristic Mercedes-Benz Cars, especially in a design that is equipped with a reliable engine performance.

Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series Coupe is the best evidence available for transfer and implementation of technology in the arena of F1 racing cars to the public road.

Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series Coupe has the most powerful engine in the C-Class series. Has a maximum power of 380 kW (517 hp) and maximum torque of 620 Nm. 6.3 liter AMG V8 engine is very impressive with a large enough force, torque is very responsive, has a high caliber performance, Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series Coupe can accelerate from 0-100 km / h in 4.2 seconds

There are a few marquee straights in the racing world, and Laguna Seca has one of the very best. The C63 Black Series' 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 is an already legendary mill, and in this guise, it's damned close to perfection. All along the slight left-bending straight with its blind crest (just prior to dive-bombing into Turn Two on hammered brake discs), this large-of-lung naturally aspirated V8 belted out its soundtrack like opera. Its 510 horsepower peaking at 6,800 rpm and 457 pound-feet of torque maxing out at 5,200 rpm felt uncommonly flexible and at the ready. At a curb weight of 3,770 pounds, The Black Series isn't a featherweight, but it feels solid and mostly better for it

the C63 Black Series revealed itself through the curves that followed as an honestly race-inspired proposition. Each front 19-inch wheel weighs about 5.5 pounds less than a standard AMG wheel, while each of the rear wheels peels off around 6.5 pounds apiece. The AMG-specific speed sensitive steering ratio of 13.5:1 with a lock-to-lock of 2.2 turns has been made even more direct on the Black through an extra 1.6 inches of front track width, with the rear track swelling by 3.1 inches. Top it all off with the sturdier coil-over adjustable KW damper set that lowers the car around six-tenths of an inch, clamp on 15.4-inch Brembo carbon composite brake discs up front, and it's plain to see that this AMG was designed to be a crisply responsive piece that belies its size.

The DBS has launch the new Aston Martin era with one hell of a bang. Set to go into production in October, it'll be quicker than any Aston road car before it, thanks to its massaged V-12. It'll weigh about 220 pounds less than a regular DB9. It'll wear a body kit designed to help it slice through the air more cleanly. And it'll introduce high-tech materials and a new upgraded cockpit for the entire DB line.

The ultimate embodiment of the DB9 coupe, the DBS will replace the muscular Vanquish as the flagship Aston Martin, although senior execs struggle to admit it.

A combination of elegant design, innovative manufacturing processes, race-derived materials and components and Aston Martin's unrivalled hand-build expertise makes the DBS a luxury sports car without equal. Every line, crease and curve conveys the enormous potential of the DBS, a seductive blend of refinement and raw power, provided by the hand-built V12 producing 510 bhp, a top speed of 191 mph and a 0-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds.

Performance

The need for high-performance stability, handling ability and low kerb weight defined the DBS's form and construction. Accordingly, the DBS becomes the first production Aston Martin to make extensive use of ultra-light carbon-fiber body panels. High levels of performance and control are delivered by the combination of inherent light weight, near-perfect weight distribution, a supremely powerful and flexible V12 engine, and a performance-honed six-speed transmission, together with new carbon ceramic brakes and an adaptive damper controlled suspension system.

At the heart of the DBS is a 6.0-liter V12 engine. As with all current Aston Martins, it is hand-assembled at Aston Martin's dedicated engine facility in Cologne, Germany. The classic 6.0-liter V12 features a number of power-increasing enhancements. These include a 'by-pass' engine air intake port that opens above 5500 rpm to allow more air into the engine, and re-profiled air inlet ports that further improve airflow into the combustion chamber. Combined with a compression ratio of 10.9:1, the result of these enhancements is prodigious power and torque: the DBS delivers 510 bhp at 6500 rpm. The 3.71:1 final-drive ratio ensures that the additional power is usable, enhancing in-gear acceleration in particular.

Design

The DBS is manufactured using the finest materials, with a combination of hand-finishing and pioneering high-technology processes. From the exceptional quality of the design and finish to the advanced production techniques employed to save weight and create strength, the DBS is both a technological masterpiece and a powerful visual and tactile experience, inside and out.

The external detailing reflects the power and dynamic abilities of the DBS, with revised inlets and enlarged grilles that deliver more air into the engine and increase its cooling capacity. Subtle design details include a new five-bar design for the polished alloy main grille, as well as two additional vents in the enlarged power bulge on the carbon-fiber bonnet. These vents are entirely functional, improving engine performance and efficiency, yet also communicating the increased power output of the uprated V12 engine.

The DBS's aerodynamic enhancements are shaped by Aston Martin's racing experience. A carbon-fiber splitter and a new front bumper design help channel airflow around the car's wider bodywork. The aerodynamics team worked hand in hand with the modeling team to ensure that the forms and surfaces of DBS were sculpted for inherent stability at high speeds.

Interior

The interior of the DBS represents the epitome of Aston Martin's commitment to using materials honestly, without disguise or embellishment. Lightweight materials are used throughout to save weight; door pulls are made from carbon-fiber, for example, and the carpet has been woven with lighter fibers to save weight. Special semi-aniline leather is used throughout the cabin, saving weight as well as giving a soft feel and distinctive aroma.

As an option the DBS may be equipped with specially developed lightweight seats (outside North America). These feature a carbon-fiber and Kevlar composite structure and are manufactured by a supplier to the motorsport and aviation industries before being returned to Aston Martin's Gaydon factory for hand-trimming. The structure is created by sandwiching a layer of Kevlar between two layers of carbon-fiber with the outer finish left exposed on the seat backs, lacquered to create a durable and attractive finish.

The start sequence of the DBS is augmented by an all-new centre console design with a cast metal surround, crisp typography and new graphics. The new console has a traditional dial-face clock at the centre, flanked by two rotary controls for the heating and air-conditioning system, fashioned from solid, turned aluminum.

Featuring bold looks, a powerful V-6 engine and Acura’s acclaimed Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD™) system, the 2010 RL demonstrates that refined luxury is complemented perfectly by advanced technology and performance adrenaline. In addition to delivering luxury, style and performance, Acura’s top-of-the-line sedan keeps drivers more connected to their world, and the world around them, by featuring the latest in intuitive, easy-to-use, state-of-the-art technology.

“If a customer is looking for the perfect blend of luxury, performance and safety, then look no further than the 2010 Acura RL”,
said Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales. “It would be hard to find a production car at any price that offers more advanced technology or drive system sophistication.”

The 2010 RL is available in three variations: RL, RL with Technology Package and RL with Technology Package Plus CMBS™. All RL’s feature as standard a potent 3.7-liter VTEC® V-6 engine, Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™, leather trimmed interior, power front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control system, power moonroof, power windows, leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, Multi-Information Display (MID) that allows access to multiple electronic functions, Acura/Bose® Surround Sound audio system and Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® connectivity.

The available Technology Package includes the satellite-linked Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition™, AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic with Traffic Rerouting™, AcuraLink Real-Time Weather™, rear view back-up camera, Active Front Lighting System (AFS), ventilated front seats, and a simulated wood accented steering wheel and shift knob. The top RL package is the Technology Package with CMBS™ which adds Acura’s acclaimed Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and genuine maple wood instrument panel trim.

Powertrain

The technology built into the 2010 RL includes a highly refined 3.7-liter V-6 engine that develops 300 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque thanks to an innovative VTEC® valvetrain system for both the intake and exhaust valves, a high compression ratio, along with a special dual-stage magnesium alloy intake manifold that enables the intake to function as a single- or dual-plenum manifold design based on engine operating parameters. In addition to generating excellent power and torque, the RL engine meets the latest EPA TIER 2 – BIN 5 and CARB LEV II ULEV emissions standards.

To handle the output of the 3.7-liter engine, a Sequential SportShift 5-speed automatic transmission is fitted that can be shifted via an easy-to-use straight gate shifter or by racing-inspired steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.

The RL’s acclaimed Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD™) system helps provide an exhilarating driving experience as well as peace of mind— regardless of most weather conditions. There are numerous traction advantages of all-wheel drive, yet SH-AWD™ does a key function that is not available with traditional AWD systems: SH-AWD™ utilizes torque vectoring (the increase the rotation speed of an outside rear wheel) to create a “yaw moment” to help the RL turn more effectively while under power. Such a yaw moment reduces the cornering load on the front tires to minimize understeer, to improve handling balance and to escalate total cornering grip.

Body and Chassis

To complement the high-performance powertrain, Acura engineers gave the RL a rigid yet lightweight Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure. A strong body was critical for achieving the engineers’ high targets for steering and handling precision, outstanding ride quality, isolation of undesirable road inputs along with excellent safety.

The RL’s body is constructed primarily of high tensile strength steel, while the hood, trunk lid, front fenders and bumper beams are made of lightweight aluminum. A sophisticated four-wheel independent suspension system with double-wishbone (front) and multi-link (rear) architecture, isolated front and rear subframes, large diameter stabilizer bars and heavy-duty steering rack components work in concert with the rigid unit body construction to complete the RL’s chassis layout. Subframes and suspension components made of aluminum reduce the RL’s weight for improved performance, more supple suspension action and better fuel economy.

To provide excellent handling and looks, 18x8-inch diameter 7-spoke aluminum wheels are matched with performance-minded Michelin Pilot all-season tires. Powerful, responsive and predictable braking action is supplied by a four-wheel disc brake system utilizing aluminum 4-piston front calipers matched with 12.6-inch diameter ventilated front brake rotors and 12.2-inch solid rear rotors with large single-piston calipers. Braking is further aided by the latest advancements in safety technology including a four-channel ABS system with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist.

The RL with Technology Package plus CMBS™ includes Acura’s Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™). Using millimeter-wave technology, CMBS™ monitors the distance and closing rate between the RL and the vehicle directly in front of it. CMBS™ then uses the information to continuously calculate the likelihood of a frontal collision as well as to alert the driver in different stages of urgency. If the likelihood of a collision significantly increases, CMBS™ will take actions such as to apply the brakes and pre-tension the front seatbelts.

Exterior/Interior

The 2010 RL’s exterior styling is not only distinctive and upscale, but delivers excellent aerodynamics and a stable feel at higher speeds. The RL’s athletic style gives indication of the power concealed by the Acura signature front grille. The RL’s shape is taut and athletic, and its acceleration and cornering performance allow it to challenge the most capable German and Japanese sports sedans. Comfort, quietness and ride quality are also on a par with performance sedan competitors. For 2010, six exterior colors are available and a special pearl pigment process improves paint luster and shine.

RL models equipped with the Technology Package also feature the Active Front Lighting System (AFS) for the Xenon High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights that swivel up to 12 degrees laterally in response to vehicle speed and steering wheel input. When cornering, the inboard headlight swivels to illuminate a larger area of road surface throughout the corner, improving visibility and minimizing blind spots.

Inside, the 2010 RL features an elegantly styled interior that includes leather-trimmed heated front seats, comfortable space for rear seat passengers, plenty of storage areas and easy-to-use functionality. Moreover, just like the driver’s seat, the passenger front seat has 10-way power adjustability. Generous use of insulation, an acoustic glass windshield and an Active Sound Control system team to further reduce noise in the RL’s already quiet cabin. As part of the Technology Package, the front seats incorporate six levels of ventilation and steering wheel and shift knob are trimmed with simulated wood trim (the CMBS package adds genuine maple wood trim).

The RL interior features an assortment of leading-edge technologies to enhance driver control and information access. These technologies include Acura HandsFreeLink™ and Bluetooth®-based wireless telephone interface that allows calls to be made utilizing the RL’s steering wheel-mounted HandsFreeLink™ controls. Standard on all RLs is a spectacular Acura/Bose®10-speaker Surround Sound System with DVD-Audio, Bluetooth®Audio, XM® Radio and USB port/AUX jack connectivity.

A key component of the RL Technology Package is the Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition™. The advanced system allows for easy control of key systems via voice control (with more than 700 commands) including voice guidance for turn-by-turn directions, over 7 million points of interest, Zagat Survey™ restaurant guide information, along with voice recognition to operate key audio and climate control functions.

The innovative AcuraLink® Satellite Communication System features driver relevant technologies such as AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic with Traffic Rerouting™ and AcuraLink Real-Time Weather™ with continuously updated radar maps.

Safety

The 2010 RL utilizes Acura’s rigid Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure that features extensive use of high-tensile steel and lightweight aluminum components to take vehicle construction beyond conventional safety protocols— all while keeping overall vehicle weight in check.

The ACE™ body structure’s front-mounted polygonal frame design enhances occupant protection and crash compatibility in frontal crashes by utilizing a network of connected structural elements to distribute crash energy more evenly throughout the front of the vehicle— and away from the passenger compartment. To enhance safety the RL employs active head restraints built into the front seats to help improve neck and head protection in the event of a rear impact collision. To further aid in safety, the RL includes as standard six airbags and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

The RL earned 5-Star ratings (the best possible) from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA*) for frontal and side-impact crash tests, and for rollover resistance.

In addition, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the RL its top rating of GOOD in Side Impact Collision Evaluation (SICE) testing, a GOOD rating for IIHS’ Frontal Offset crash test and (thanks in part to active head restraints for front seat passengers) the RL receive a GOOD rating in IIHS Rear Crash Protection evaluation.

Like all 2010 Acura models, the 2010 RL is covered by a comprehensive 4-year/50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty and a 6-year/70,000 powertrain limited warranty. Additional ownership benefits include Acura Total Luxury Care® (TLC®), which provides free 24-hour roadside assistance, concierge service and trip routing.
